چکیده

This paper investigates how inconsistency (as measured by the I2 statistic) among studies in a meta-analysis may differ, according to the type of outcome data and effect measure. We used hierarchical models to analyse data from 3873 binary, 5132 continuous and 880 mixed outcome meta-analyses within the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Predictive distributions for inconsistency expected in future meta-analyses were obtained, which can inform priors for between-study variance. Inconsistency estimates were highest on average for binary outcome meta-analyses of risk differences and continuous outcome meta-analyses. For a planned binary outcome meta-analysis in a general research setting, the predictive distribution for inconsistency among log odds ratios had median 22% and 95% CI: 12% to 39%. For a continuous outcome meta-analysis, the predictive distribution for inconsistency among standardized mean differences had median 40% and 95% CI: 15% to 73%. Levels of inconsistency were similar for binary data measured by log odds ratios and log relative risks. Fitted distributions for inconsistency expected in continuous outcome meta-analyses using mean differences were almost identical to those using standardized mean differences. The empirical evidence on inconsistency gives guidance on which outcome measures are most likely to be consistent in particular circumstances and facilitates Bayesian meta-analysis with an informative prior for heterogeneity. © 2015 The Authors. ADDIS: an automated way to do network meta-analysis

In evidence-based medicine, meta-analysis is an important statistical technique for combining the findings from independent clinical trials which have attempted to answer similar questions about treatment’s clinical effectiveness [1]. Normally, such meta-analyses are pair-wise treatment comparisons, which only include the comparisons between two treatments, e.g. treatment A and placebo. When ad...

Meta-analysis of psychological intervention`s effectiveness on reduction of pain intensity among patients with chronic pain

Aims and background: Psychologists have looked for measuring credibility and effectiveness of psychological interventions in chronic pain field, in recent years. In this regard, meta-analysis can defines the effect rate of psychological interventions by integrating the obtained results from different studies. Materials and methods: This study wants to study the effective rate of psychological...

Consistency and inconsistency in network meta-analysis: concepts and models for multi-arm studies‡

Meta-analyses that simultaneously compare multiple treatments (usually referred to as network meta-analyses or mixed treatment comparisons) are becoming increasingly common. An important component of a network meta-analysis is an assessment of the extent to which different sources of evidence are compatible, both substantively and statistically. A simple indirect comparison may be confounded if...

A primer on network meta-analysis with emphasis on mental health.

OBJECTIVE A quantitative synthesis of evidence via standard pair-wise meta-analysis lies on the top of the hierarchy for evaluating the relative effectiveness or safety between two interventions. In most healthcare problems, however, there is a plethora of competing interventions. Network meta-analysis allows to rank competing interventions and evaluate their relative effectiveness even if they...

تدوین روشی جامع برای تحلیل سلسله مراتبی فازی ( با تاکید بر اصلاح ماتریس مقایسات زوجی ناسازگار فازی)

In this paper a new method to improve the inconsistency ofpair wise comparison matrices is proposed. To do so, we usedZeshui’s method in fuzzy form. Also we developed a completefuzzy AHP method by combining Cao’s inconsistency testmethod, Buckley’s revised AHP method, Chen’s rankingmethod, and Genetic Algorithm method to calculate the overallpriorities.
